St. Michael’s Choirs

“The Singing of the Church comes ultimately out of love… The Holy Spirit is love, and it is He who produces the singing.” – Pope Benedict XVI (The Spirit of the Liturgy, 142)

Singing in a Church Choir is a beautiful way to serve our Lord Jesus Christ by becoming more involved in the Liturgy of the Mass. The Catechism (1156) states that: “The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value”. Pope Benedict XVI, spoke of the importance of quality Liturgical Music in his lecture Liturgy and Church Music: “Music truly appropriate to the worship of the Incarnate Lord exalted on the Cross exists on the strength of a truly comprehensive synthesis of spirit, intuition and audible sound… We might say that Western Music derives from the inner richness of this synthesis, indeed has developed and unfolded in a fullness of possibilities ranging from Gregorian chant and the music of the cathedrals via the great polyphony and the music of the Renaissance and the Baroque up to Bruckner and beyond…” Those who are truly impressed by this grandeur somehow realize from their innermost depths that the faith is true.”
